Vicinity Server - Introduction | |
The vicinity
server is the core component of the vicinity service. It computes and manages the
neighborhood for all users. The vicinity server is a background service like the WWW
server. It provides information about users, whereas the WWW server provides documents. The vicinity server collects information about users, their position on the Web, about documents and their interconnections. User interfaces connect to the vicinity server to fetch information about other users in the vicinity and the local web structure. Information gathering components submit locations of users and user properties to the vicinity server.
